In December 2015, the US added 34,400 temp jobs and the temp penetration matched a previous all-time high, according the US Bureau of Labor Statistics. This represents a 3.30% year-over-year increase in December for the number of temp jobs.

Additionally, the US added 292,000 jobs (total nonfarm employment) in December. Staffing Industry Analysts report that “employment gains occurred in several industries, and the increase exceeded the highest forecast in a Bloomberg survey of economists.”

The U.S. has added an average of 200,000 jobs each month over the past couple years, and we expect this to continue throughout 2016. A survey of hiring managers and human resource professionals across industries by Harris Poll found that 47% plan to bring on temporary, or contract, workers.

With the increase in jobs, what temp roles do we predict will be hot in 2016?

We expect that Marketing Temps, Accounting Temps and Legal Temps will be the hot temporary jobs this year.

Marketing Contractors: Content Marketing, Digital Marketing/Social Media and Creative/Art Direction are some of the top in-demand skill sets.

Accounting Contractors: Companies seek Accounts Payable (AP), Accounts Receivable (AR) and Collections, Bookkeepers, Financial Analysts, Accounting Managers and Payroll Clerks.

Legal Contractors: Legal Secretaries, Paralegals and Legal Administrators are in high demand.
